Human Interaction

Human Activities: In the Montane Cordillera the work force is divided into six industries.  Most are employed in the service sector (32%). The other percentage works in commerce (15%), forestry (12%), construction (7%), agriculture (5%), transportation (5%), and mining (4%). Forestry is the main industry.

However, due to the growth of the parks and tourism of the area, many habitats have been removed to make room for roads and new expansions to the towns. The roads have formed barriers for the animals have have prevented them from roaming in certain areas. Industrial activities have also further pressured the wildlife as it has limited both the quality and the quantity of water supplies. In certain areas like Okanagan, shortages of water have become common.

There are six national parks that are found within the Montane Cordillera. One concern for the future is that the parks will be used for development and will affect the wildlife in negative ways in the region. However, industries have been coming to more eco-friendly solutions and working towards helping and cleaning up the enviornment.
